, located in the western part of Shaanxi Province, is one of the most famous historical and cultural cities in China. As the capital of 13 dynasties, Xi'an has left a wealth of relics and historical sites. The city walls, the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower are well preserved and remain the most popular tourist destinations.
Xi'an is also famous for its delicious food. The most popular dishes include roujiamo (a kind of sandwich made with roast pork), yangrou paomo (a kind of soup with flat bread pieces), and pao mo (a soup with pieces of unleavened bread).
What to see:
1. The city walls: The Xi'an city walls were first built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and have been rebuilt and renovated many times since then. The walls are 12 meters (39 feet) high and 12 meters (39 feet) wide. They are surrounded by a moat that is 30 meters (98 feet) wide and 5 meters (16 feet) deep.
2. The Bell Tower: The Bell Tower was first built in the Tang Dynasty and was used to sound the bells to announce the time of the day. The tower is 37 meters (121 feet) high and has four floors.
3. The Drum Tower: The Drum Tower was first built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and was used to sound the drums to announce the time of the day. The tower is 40 meters (131 feet) high and has five floors.
