Explore Old Cairo (Coptic Cairo)

Old Cairo is a district of Cairo, Egypt, located to the southeast of the city center, in the Cairo Governorate. It is also informally known as Coptic Cairo, due to the large number of Coptic Christian churches and monasteries located there. Old Cairo contains the remnants of the ancient city of Memphis, and the ruins of the ancient fortress of Babylon. It is also home to the Ben Ezra Synagogue, one of the oldest synagogues in the world.
