Dhauli Shanti Stupa is an important Buddhist shrine located in the district of Bhubaneswar, in the state of Odisha, India. The shrine is situated on the banks of the river Daya, 8 km from the city of Bhubaneswar. The Dhauli Shanti Stupa was built by the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BC, as a symbol of peace. The Stupa is said to have been built on the spot where Ashoka had a vision of the Buddha, after he had converted to Buddhism. The Dhauli Shanti Stupa is a white-washed dome, with a spire on top. The dome is decorated with carved designs of the Buddha, and the Stupa is surrounded by a railing. The Dhauli Shanti Stupa is an important place of pilgrimage for Buddhists, and is visited by thousands of tourists every year.
