The falls are situated on the border of the Indian state of Goa and the state of Karnataka. They are 60 kilometres (37 mi) from Panaji, the state capital of Goa. The falls are formed by the river dropping from a height of 310 metres (1,020 ft).
The falls are listed as the fifth tallest waterfall in India and the ninth tallest in Asia. Dudhsagar Falls is a major tourist attraction and is a part of the Goa-Karnataka border.
