The temple of Jageshwar Mahadev is situated in the Jageshwar area of the Tehri Garhwal district in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. The temple is situated at an altitude of 1,752 meters above sea level and is built in the Nagara style of architecture. The temple complex covers an area of 2.5 hectares and is surrounded by a high wall. The main temple is a two-storey structure and has a shikhara (spire) that is covered in gold. The temple is said to date back to the 8th century CE. The temple is a popular pilgrimage destination and is visited by thousands of pilgrims during the annual Maha Shivaratri festival.
