Gulmarg is a town, a hill station and a tourist destination in the Baramula district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is located in the Pir Panjal Range, about 60 km from Srinagar.
The town is situated at an altitude of 2,730 metres (8,958 ft) above sea level and is a popular ski resort. It also has the world's second-highest golf course.
Gulmarg was founded in the 15th century by the Kashmiri king, Zain-ul-Abidin. The word Gulmarg is derived from two words: "gul" (rose) and "mar" (field), thus meaning "Rose Valley".
The town is a popular tourist destination and receives over one million visitors every year. Most of the visitors are Indian tourists, although a growing number of foreign tourists are also beginning to visit Gulmarg.
The main attraction of Gulmarg is the ski resort. The resort offers a wide range of skiing options, including beginner, intermediate and advanced slopes. The resort also has a number of ski lifts and equipment hire facilities.
Gulmarg is also home to the world's second-highest golf course, which is located at an altitude of 2,650 metres. The town is also home to a number of historical and religious sites, including the Gulmarg Mosque, the Zain-ul-Abidin Mosque and the Shankaracharya Temple.
