Pahalgam is a town and a notified area committee in Anantnag district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is located in the Pir Panjal Range. The town is a popular tourist destination, featuring alpine meadows, Himalayan forests and rushing rivers. It is situated on the banks of the Lidder River, about 96 kilometres (60 mi) from Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
The area is also home to the Amarnath Temple, a Hindu shrine which is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year. The town has a number of hotels and guest houses which cater to the tourist trade.
