The cathedral was built in the Gothic Revival style between 1868 and 1884, on the site of a previous building. It has a cruciform plan, with a nave and two aisles, and a choir with an apse. The bell tower is separate from the building. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of Nice.
