Palampur is the headquarters of the Kangra district. It is said that Palampur was founded by the Pandavas during their exile and that the town was known as Pandu Lena. The area came under British rule after the first Anglo-Sikh War in 1846. The town is well known for its tea gardens and its temperate climate.
