Pushkar is an ancient town in the Ajmer district of the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is located 14 km from Ajmer and is one of the five sacred dhams (pilgrimage sites) of Hinduism. It is also a major pilgrimage site for Sikhs. The town is situated on the banks of the Pushkar Lake, a holy lake which is said to have been created by the god Brahma. It is surrounded by the Aravalli Mountains. The town is famous for the annual Pushkar Fair, which is held in the Hindu month of Kartik (October/November). The fair is said to be the largest camel fair in the world and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world.
