The Capitoline Museums are a set of art and archaeological museums in Rome, Italy, housed in the palazzo del Campidoglio on the Capitoline Hill. The museums are owned and operated by the municipality of Rome. The first collection to be opened to the public was the Museo Capitolino in 1734.
The Capitoline Museums are housed in three buildings. The main building was designed by Michelangelo and is known as the palazzo del Campidoglio. The second building is the Palazzo Nuovo, which was added to the museum complex in the seventeenth century. The third building is the Palazzo dei Conservatori, which was also designed by Michelangelo.
The Capitoline Museums are open from 9:00am to 7:00pm, except on Mondays.
