Watch Sunset at Oia

Santorini is a Cycladic island in the Aegean Sea, about 200 km southeast of Athens, Greece. It is the largest island of a small, circular archipelago which bears the same name and is the remnant of a volcanic caldera. Santorini is perhaps the most stunning of all the Greek islands. A volcanic eruption destroyed the original island, Thera, around 1600 BC. What remains is an astonishing Caldera, a large sunken crater, with cliffs towering high on all sides. The whitewashed houses, blue-domed churches, and picturesque villages clinging to the steep slopes make for a magical setting. The island is also home to some of the best beaches in Greece, including the world-famous black sand beach of Perissa and the red sand beach of Kamari. Santorini is a popular tourist destination, with a population of about 15,000 in the main town of Fira. Many visitors stay in Fira, Oia, or Imerovigli and take day trips to the other villages and beaches. Oia is the most popular place to watch the sunset in Santorini.
