History
The Spiti Valley is located in the north-eastern part of Himachal Pradesh in India. The valley is situated at a height of about 4,500 meters above sea level. The valley is about 150 kilometers long and about 35 kilometers wide. The valley was carved out by the river Spiti. The valley has a long and rich history. The first inhabitants of the valley were the Monpas. The valley was then ruled by the Tibetans. In the 18th century, the valley was invaded by the Gorkhas. In the late 19th century, the British invaded the valley and annexed it to India.
How to Reach Kardang Monastery
Kardang monastery is situated at a distance of about 15 km from the district headquarters of Kaza. One can reach the monastery either by walking or by hiring a vehicle.
