State Russian Museum

The St. Petersburg State Russian Museum is a museum of Russian art, founded in 1895. It is located in the city of Saint Petersburg. The Russian Museum is the largest museum of Russian art in the world. It houses a vast collection of Russian art, including painting, sculpture, works on paper, and decorative and applied art. The collection consists of more than three million items, including the largest collection of Russian icons and the second-largest collection of Russian folk art. The Russian Museum was founded on May 13, 1895, as the Russian Museum of His Imperial Majesty's Court. The museum was originally located in the Mikhailovsky Palace, but it was soon moved to the Winter Palace, which is now the residence of the Russian president. In 1917, after the Russian Revolution, the Russian Museum became a state museum. In 1933, the Russian Museum moved to its current location in the city of Saint Petersburg. The Russian Museum is one of the largest museums in the world.
