Guimar pyramids

Guimar pyramids

The Pyramids of Guimar are a series of pyramids located in the municipality of Guimar, on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The pyramids were built by the Guanches, the native inhabitants of the Canary Islands, between the 12th and 15th centuries AD. The pyramids are located in the southeastern part of the island, in the area known as the Teno mountains. The pyramids are made of basalt, a volcanic rock. They are cone-shaped, and their height ranges from 6 to 23 meters. The pyramids were first discovered in the 19th century by Spanish explorers. They were subsequently studied by archaeologists, who determined that they were built by the Guanches. The Guanches were a pre-Hispanic people who inhabited the Canary Islands prior to the arrival of the Spanish in the 15th century. The pyramids are a popular tourist attraction and are open to the public.
