The north-eastern Indian state of Tripura is bordered by Bangladesh to the north, south and west, and the Indian states of Mizoram and Assam to the east. The capital and largest city is Agartala.
Tripura is a hilly state with a number of rivers, the most important of which is the Gomati. Forests and wildlife are abundant; some of the animals and birds found in the state are the tiger, elephant, deer, rhinoceros, peacock, and parrot. The state is also known for its handicrafts, particularly bamboo products.
The people of Tripura are mainly of Bengali descent, although there are a number of tribes as well. The official language is Bengali, although Kokborok is also spoken by the Tripuri people.
The economy of Tripura is based on agriculture, although there is some industry as well. The main crops are rice, maize, pulses, and potatoes. There is also some tea cultivation.
Tripura is a popular tourist destination, with its forests, wildlife, handicrafts, and temples. Some of the places of interest are the Ujjayanta Palace, the Neermahal palace, the Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary, and the Unakoti Hills.
