About Nellore Located in the Coastal Andhra region of Andhra Pradesh, Nellore is a city and district headquarters of Nellore district. The district is bounded by the Bay of Bengal to the east, Prakasam district to the west, Kadapa and Chittoor districts to the north, and the state of Tamil Nadu to the south. The city is situated at the banks of the Penna River. It is the fourth most populous city in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
The economy of the district is based on agriculture and livestock. The main crops are rice, maize, sugarcane, cotton, and tobacco. The main livestock are cows, buffaloes, goats, and sheep. The city is also a major transportation hub for the district. Nellore is well connected by road and rail to all major cities in the country. The Nellore Airport is located about 25 km from the city.
