About Vrindavan Vrindavan, located in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, is a major Hindu pilgrimage center and a city of temples. It is located about 150 kilometers south-east of Delhi, and is the site of the ancient holy city of Vrindavan, which is mentioned in the Bhagavata Purana.
The city was founded by the saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in the 15th century. He is said to have discovered the holy site while in a state of ecstatic love for the Hindu god Krishna. Today, Vrindavan is home to a large number of temples dedicated to Krishna, including the Banke Bihari Temple, the Govind Dev Temple, and the ISKCON Temple.
The city is also a popular destination for Hindu pilgrims, who come to bathe in the Yamuna River and perform religious rituals. Vrindavan is also known for its bazaars, where pilgrims can purchase religious souvenirs and other items.
