The Ajanta Caves

The Ajanta Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, India. The caves are about 30 kilometers from Aurangabad, and were first discovered in 1819 by a British officer on a hunting expedition. The caves date back to the 2nd century BC, and were used by Buddhist monks as a place of meditation and retreat. The caves were abandoned in the 7th century AD, and were rediscovered in 1819.

The Ajanta Caves are a group of 29 caves carved out of the rock face, dating from the 2nd century BC to about 480 AD. The caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ajanta Caves can be visited throughout the year. However, the best time to visit Ajanta Caves would be during the winter season.
