The Hungarian State Opera House is a magnificent Neo-Renaissance opera house in Budapest, Hungary. Construction began in 1875 and the opera house was inaugurated in 1884. The building is considered one of the finest opera houses in the world. The Hungarian State Opera House has a capacity of 1,711 and features a large, ornate auditorium with three levels of boxes and a proscenium arch. The ceiling is painted with a fresco by Bertalan Székely depicting a heavenly landscape. The walls and ceiling of the foyer are decorated with murals by Mihály Munkácsy. The opera house is also home to a large collection of artwork, including paintings by Károly Lotz, Mihály Munkácsy, and László Paál.
