Forte di Belvedere

Forte di Belvedere

Florence Forte di Belvedere is a medieval fortification in Florence, central Italy. It is located in the Oltrarno district, on the south bank of the River Arno, in the Belvedere area. The fort was built in the 12th century by the Uberti family, who controlled the area. In the 13th century, it was acquired by the de' Medici family, who extensively modified it. The fort was used as a military base until the 18th century, when it was abandoned. It was later used as a prison, and it currently serves as a museum.
