Georgetown Penang

Georgetown is the capital of the Malaysian state of Penang. It is located on the island of Penang, in the north-west of the country. The city became a British colony in 1786, and was ceded to the British Empire in 1824. It was merged with the Sultanate of Kedah in 1841, and became a British protectorate in 1867. In 1957, the city was granted city status by Queen Elizabeth II. Georgetown is a popular tourist destination, and is home to a wide range of historical and cultural attractions. These include the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, the Kapitan Keling Mosque, and the St. George's Church. The city is also home to a large number of restaurants and nightlife venues, and is a popular shopping destination.
