Hampi, in the state of Karnataka, is a former city and UNESCO World Heritage Site in India. It is located on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. Once the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, it is now a village in the Ballari district. Hampi is known for its ancient temples and rock-cut architecture. It is a popular destination for rock climbing, with routes of all levels of difficulty. The most popular climbs are at the Virupaksha Temple, the Hemakuta Hill, and the Matanga Hill. The best time to visit Hampi for climbing is from October to February.
