Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world, and is located in the Judean Mountains, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea. It is the holiest city in Judaism and the third holiest city in Islam, and is also home to significant Christian and Samaritan populations. The city has a long and tumultuous history, and has been fought over and occupied by a number of different groups over the centuries. Jerusalem is a major tourist destination, and its Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
