History of Haripur

The town of Haripur was founded by the British in 1853. It was initially known as Campbellpur, after Sir Donald Campbell, the lieutenant governor of the Punjab. The town was renamed Haripur in honour of Sir Hari Singh, the raja of Jammu and Kashmir, in 1874.
