Tomb of Nefertari

The Tomb of Nefertari is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Luxor, Egypt. Located in the Valley of the Queens, the tomb was constructed for the consort of Pharaoh Ramesses II. Nefertari was the first queen to be buried in the Valley of the Queens, and her tomb is one of the most elaborately decorated in the area. The tomb was discovered in 1904 by Italian archaeologist Ernesto Schiaparelli. The tomb has been extensively restored, and is now open to the public. What to See The Tomb of Nefertari is divided into two main sections: the outer section and the inner section. The outer section is the most decorated part of the tomb, and features scenes from Nefertari's life and death. Highlights include the "Queen's Sarcophagus," a large alabaster sarcophagus decorated with scenes of Nefertari being worshiped by the gods, and the "Horus Chapel," a small chapel decorated with scenes of Horus, the god of kingship. The inner section of the tomb is less decorated, and contains the burial chamber of Nefertari. The burial chamber is decorated with scenes of the goddess Nut, who represents the sky, and the god Osiris, who represents the underworld. How to Get There The Tomb of Nefertari is located in the Valley of the Queens, about 2 km west of the Valley of the Kings. The tomb can be reached by taxi or by foot. The walk from the Valley of the Kings to the Valley of the Queens takes about 20 minutes.
