Museo Reina Sofia

The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Spanish: National Museum of Queen Sofía Center of Art) is a museum in Madrid, Spain, located on the north side of the Plaza de Santa Ana. It occupies the building that formerly housed the Madrid Royal Conservatory. The museum houses the largest collection of 20th century art in Spain. The museum was inaugurated on September 10, 1992, as the "National Museum of Modern Art" (Museo Nacional de Arte Moderno). It was renamed after Queen Sofía of Spain in 2004. The museum has a collection of over 3,000 artworks, of which around 1,000 are on display at any one time. The collection includes paintings by Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Juan Gris and Frida Kahlo, as well as sculptures by Alberto Giacometti and Henry Moore. It also has a large collection of photographs, film, and architectural drawings.
