Cheonggyecheon

Cheonggyecheon

Cheonggyecheon is a 9.4 km long, modern public recreation space in downtown Seoul, South Korea. The stream passes through the heart of Seoul and provides a respite from the city's hustle and bustle. Cheonggyecheon was formerly a neglected waterway, but underwent a restoration project between 2003 and 2005 that returned it to its natural state. The project was controversial, with some claiming that the money spent on the restoration could have been better used elsewhere. Cheonggyecheon is now a popular tourist attraction, and a major center for cultural events in Seoul.
