Galle

Galle is a town located in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. It is situated on the Galle Face Green, a large open space on the coast. The city was founded in the late 16th century by the Portuguese, and was captured by the Dutch in 1640. It was the capital of the Dutch Ceylon colony. Galle is a World Heritage Site and is the best preserved example of a European colonial town in South Asia.
 
The city has a mix of old Dutch and Portuguese architecture, as well as a number of British colonial buildings. The fort, built by the Dutch in the 17th century, is the main tourist attraction in Galle. Other attractions include the National Museum, the Old Dutch Church, the lighthouse, and the seaside promenade.
Galle is a popular tourist destination, with a number of hotels and restaurants. The beaches nearby are also popular for swimming, sunbathing, and surfing.
