The Hindu pilgrimage site of Yamunotri is one of the four dhams (holy sites) in India. It is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand in the Himalayas and is dedicated to the river goddess Yamuna.
The Yamunotri temple is located at an altitude of 3,293 meters (10,822 feet) and is reached via a 6 kilometer (3.7 mile) trek from the town of Hanuman Chatti. The trek is usually done in 4-5 hours.
The temple is open from April to October and is usually crowded during the pilgrimage season. The best time to visit is during the monsoon season when the river is in full flow.
