The Himalayas divide the valley into two parts: the Kashmir Valley and the Ladakh Valley. The Jhelum River and its tributaries, the Chenab, the Ravi, and the Beas, drain the Kashmir Valley. The Kashmir Valley is located in the state's north-western corner, providing Jammu and Kashmir with a diverse geographical landscape. The Pir Panjal Range to the south, the Ladakh Range to the east, and the Zanskar Range to the west surround the area. The state also shares borders with the most visited places in India, making it an important route for Indian tourism. It is bordered to the north by the Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab; to the west by the Indian state of Rajasthan, to the north-west by the Pakistani province of Punjab; to the north-east by the Pakistani province of Kashmir; to the south-east by the Indian state of Jharkhand, and to the south by the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
