Sonmarg, surrounded by mountains and glaciers, has become a popular tourist destination, particularly for nature lovers, and is a popular domestic and international tourist destination. The place is also home to the Thajiwas Glacier, which makes it a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sonmarg is also referred to as the "Gateway to Ladakh." Sonmarg was founded in the 16th century by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Sona-marg, which means "golden meadow," was the town's original name. In the late 1980s, the town was developed as a tourist destination. The town has several tourist attractions, including Sonmarg Lake and the Zoji La Pass.

Pahalgam

Although they handed over the town to the Dogra dynasty in 1872. 

The town is now a popular tourist destination and is home to a number of resorts and hotels. It is also a popular destination for trekking.
