About Cherrapunji Cherrapunji is a small town in the East Khasi Hills district of the state of Meghalaya in north-eastern India. It is one of the wettest places on Earth, with an average annual rainfall of 11,873 mm (467.4 in). Cherrapunji is also credited as the place where the water cycle was first explained.
The town is located on the banks of the Khoh Ramhah, a tributary of the Bhogdoi River. The area is also known for its limestone caves, including the Mawsmai Caves and the Siju Caves. Cherrapunji is also home to the Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest waterfall in India.
The town is a popular tourist destination, with visitors coming to see the waterfalls, caves and limestone formations.
