dalaj Stepwell is a five-story stepwell located in the village of Adalaj, 18 km north of Ahmedabad, in the state of Gujarat, India. It is also known as the Adalaj ni Vav (the stepwell of Adalaj). The stepwell was built in 1498 by Queen Rudabai, the wife of Vaghela chief Rana Veer Sinh. It is octagonal in shape and is constructed of red sandstone. It is 21.3 meters deep and has a width of 14.8 meters and a height of 7.5 meters. The stepwell has a total of five stories, each three meters wide and four meters deep, with a small mosque on the top. The stepwell is noted for its intricate carvings, which include images of Hindu gods and goddesses, as well as of everyday activities such as farming and fishing.
