The ruins of Hastinapur are located in the present-day Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, India. The site is located on the right bank of the Ganges River, about 61 kilometers (38 mi) northeast of Delhi. Hastinapur was a city in the Kuru Kingdom, located in the fertile Ganges River plain. It is also mentioned in the Mahabharata. The excavations at Hastinapur have revealed evidence of a continuous settlement from the 3rd century BC to the 11th century AD.
