History of Chora Museum
The Chora Museum is an art museum located in the Edirnekapı neighborhood of Istanbul, Turkey. It houses a large collection of Byzantine art, including mosaics, icons, and frescoes. The museum is named after the nearby Chora Church, which was in turn named after the Greek word for "countryside". The museum was founded by the prominent Byzantine scholar and collector Hagia Sophia Vatinos in 1978.
