Kargil Main Street

Kargil is a town in the Kargil district of Ladakh region in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is the second-largest town in the district after Leh. Kargil is located 204 kilometres (127 mi) from Leh. Kargil has an average elevation of 10,800 feet (3,290 m). Kargil is the district headquarters of Kargil district. Kargil is also the headquarters of the Kargil tehsil. The town is inhabited by a mixed population of Shia Muslims and Sunnis. The majority of the people living in Kargil are Muslims. The main language spoken is Urdu. But people also speak Ladakhi, Hindi and English.
