The Valley of the Kings is located in Luxor, Egypt. It is a valley in the Theban Hills, located to the west of the Nile River. The valley contains 63 tombs, of which 54 are royal tombs, the valley was used for the burial of the Pharaohs of the New Kingdom, as well as the Pharaohs of the Late Period. The average period of burial in the Valley of the Kings is approximately 70 years, the valley was first used for burials in the 18th Dynasty, and reached its peak in the 19th Dynasty. The last Pharaoh to be buried in the Valley of the Kings was Ramesses V, in the 20th Dynasty, the valley was abandoned after the death of Ramesses III. The valley was reopened in the 22nd Dynasty under the rule of Shoshenq I, in the 18th Dynasty, the valley was used for the burial of the Pharaohs of the New Kingdom, including Tutankhamun, whose tomb was discovered in 1922. The valley was used for the burial of the Pharaohs of the Late Period, including Seti II, the sons of Ramesses III, the valley was used for the burial of the Pharaohs of the New Kingdom, including Ramesses IV, Ramesses VI and Ramesses VIII. The kings daughter Mutnedjmet was buried in the valley in the 21st Dynasty and her husband, the high priest Pinedjem I, was buried in the Valley of the Kings in the 22nd Dynasty.
