re is a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of Nellore district. As of 2011 census, the city had a population of 738,545. It is the sixth most populous city in the state.
Nellore is located on the banks of the Penna River, about 460 km (290 mi) south of the state capital, Hyderabad. It is a Tier-II city as per the Indian Government's classification.
The city is known for its gold and diamond trade, and as the birthplace of former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. T. Rama Rao.
